Tourism Port Douglas and Daintree executive officer Tara Bennett said Port Douglas had been recognised for many years running, and it was a wonderful reflection of the high level of commitment, service and diversity tourism operators provided in the region.
“It is fantastic to be recognised as one of the top destinations in Australia in the Trip Advisor reviews for 2015.
“Achieving fifth position behind the major capital cities of Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane shows that Port Douglas’ resurgence in popularity continues.
“The fact that Cairns was also recognised in fourth place, shows just how highly the entire Far Northern region is regarded,” she said.
Ms Bennett said the news was a great way to kick start what will be a busy holiday period for Port Douglas and Daintree operators.
“Accommodation providers are reporting very strong bookings for the holiday period, and we are looking forward to a strong Easter leading into a busy season ahead.”
“It is absolutely glorious weather here at the moment, with stunning blue skies and fantastic reef conditions with superb visibility.
“We were fortunate that the recent Tropical Cyclone Nathan made landfall much further north than Daintree and as such normal operations have continued uninterrupted with all businesses open and ready for Easter,” she said.
